Floch Forster was a soldier of the Scout Regiment and later the de facto leader of the Jaegerists, fiercely devoted to Eren Yeager and the cause of establishing the New Eldian Empire. Originally introduced as an unremarkable cadet, Floch became one of the most divisive and controversial figures in Attack on Titan due to his transformation from a self-admitted coward to a hardened radical willing to embrace mass destruction in the name of Eldia’s survival.
Floch was of average height, with auburn, tousled hair and brown eyes. During the Battle of Shiganshina, he wore the standard Scout Regiment uniform like his fellow recruits.
By the time of the Marley raid, his look became more distinct—he grew his hair longer, with heavy bangs swept to the side while keeping the lower part shorter. His attire also evolved, wearing the new black Scout uniform with anti-personnel ODM gear, signifying his growing role as a leader within the Jaegerists. Despite the passage of years, Floch’s physical stature remained similar to his peers, but his hardened demeanor reflected his radical beliefs.
Floch’s personality underwent one of the most dramatic evolutions in the series. At first, he openly admitted to being a coward, terrified of dying a meaningless death. However, during the Battle of Shiganshina, he shocked many by joining Erwin Smith’s suicide charge against the Beast Titan, proving that he was capable of courage when driven by conviction.
After surviving the battle—one of the few to do so—Floch became deeply disillusioned. He criticized the Scouts’ leadership for saving Armin Arlert over Erwin, arguing that only Erwin could lead humanity to victory. This frank and brutal honesty, though often offensive, became one of Floch’s defining traits. He believed that soldiers and civilians alike should face the harsh truth, not comforting lies, and demanded that recruits know the full risks of joining the Scouts.
His respect was reserved for those he deemed true leaders, such as Erwin and later Eren. Once he embraced Eren’s ideology, Floch’s worldview radicalized: he justified mass violence, scorched earth tactics, and civilian casualties as necessary sacrifices for Eldia’s survival. His nationalism grew extreme, and he displayed little empathy for non-Eldians or even former allies who opposed Eren. By the final battles, Floch was utterly devoted to the Rumbling, believing it to be the only way to protect Paradis Island.
Early Scout Days: Floch joined the Scout Regiment shortly before the retaking of Shiganshina. Assigned to Klaus Squad, he initially showed little distinction. However, during the fateful charge against the Beast Titan, Floch was among the only survivors, forever shaping his outlook.
Post-Battle of Shiganshina: Traumatized by the losses, Floch condemned Levi’s decision to save Armin instead of Erwin, calling it a mistake driven by emotion. His outbursts against his superiors highlighted his growing discontent and emphasis on pragmatism over sentimentality.
Shift to Jaegerism: Four years later, Floch fully embraced Eren Yeager’s ideology. He led the Jaegerists, recruiting soldiers and citizens under the banner of Eldian nationalism. As their de facto commander, Floch pushed for the Rumbling and was ruthless against dissenters, even targeting former allies like Keith Shadis and Levi Ackerman.
Marley Raid and Radicalization: During the surprise attack on Liberio, Floch displayed his ruthless side, supporting scorched earth tactics and celebrating the slaughter of Marleyan civilians as a show of Eldia’s strength. He became Eren’s loudest defender, threatening both outsiders like Kiyomi Azumabito and Eldians who resisted Jaegerist control.
Final Stand: As the alliance prepared to stop Eren, Floch fought to the bitter end. He attempted to destroy the flying boat to prevent the alliance from reaching Eren, clinging to his mission even after being gravely wounded. In his final moments, Floch begged his former comrades not to betray Eldia, still convinced that a full-scale Rumbling was the only path to survival. His death marked the end of the Jaegerists’ leadership but solidified him as one of the most radical believers in Eren’s cause.
