An Apology to all Women

i want to apologise to all the women
i have called pretty.
before i've called them intelligent or brave.
i am sorry i made it sound as though
something as simple as what you're born with
is the most you have to be proud of
when your spirit has crushed mountains
from now on i will say things like, you are resilient
or, you are extraordinary.
not because i don't think you're pretty.
but because you are so much more than that.

The theme today is Peace and Justice
In order to have justice, we have to treat each other with respect. Often it is women who suffer unjust treatment or are reduced to their looks. Women still earn less money than a men doing the same job, and many have reduced life opportunities. What do you think about the treatment of women around you?
What characteristics do you value in the women that are close to you; your mum, your sisters, your aunts, grandmothers, your friends, your teachers?
Think of three words you can use instead of calling a women 'pretty'. Next time when you talk about a women or a girl, use your own words and see how it feels.
