Tree
the tree sucks water through roots and branches releasing vapours into air before rain. the tree grows
leaves greening up towards sun and reddening and falling before regrowth. the tree inhales carbon exhales oxygen and I Inhale oxygen exhale carbon. trachea and bronchi
mirror branches and twigs.
we dance our dance
of life. the tree
and I find peace
in dancing stillness at
the heart of cycling
days seasons and years.
dropping ego
like leaves
to earth
raising joy
like vapour
to sky.
sustaining life like oxygen
To air. knowing all
without knowing. there is
only now.

The theme today is peace and our planet
Every Friday thousands of young people go on strike from school in order to highlight the climate emergency. This poem and picture highlight the ways in which we are interconnected with trees through the ways that we and they breathe the air.
Why do you think that the poet made this poem into this shape?
Why do you think that the artist put these two pictures side by side?
What does this make you think about? How does it encourage you and others to want to protect the planet?
Can you create a poem that is in the shape of the thing that you are writing about?
