METALS MACHINING 1 - 3902/3903 (Two Terms)

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Course Description: This is a hands on course where students will learn about basic metal properties and different metal processes. Students will study safety, measuring, print reading, lathe operations, mill operations, welding, casting, forging, forming, grinding, and other cutting operations. Projects are incorporated to cover these processes.

METALS MACHINING II 3904/3905 (Two Terms)

Prerequisite: Metals Machining I

Grades 10,11, 12

Course Description: This is a hands on course where students will have an in-depth study on measuring, print reading, metallurgy, lathe operations, milling operations, print reading, basic CNC operations, and CNC programming. Field trip opportunities are offered to showcase machining/metalworking careers. Projects are incorporated to cover these processes.

LAB FEE: $30.00. May be repeated for credit with instructor permission

WELDING FABRICATION 3907/3908 (Two Terms)

Grades 10, 11, 12

Course Description: Fundamentals of arc and gas welding will be taught. The first term arc welding is done in the flat position. The second term instruction will cover out-of-position welding in both arc and gas welding processes. Other facets of welding that are covered are brazing, cutting, MIG, TIG, blueprint reading, and a maintenance project of the student’s choice with the consent of the instructor. (Wisconsin State welding certifications are offered to interested students) . GTC TRANSCRIPTED CREDIT

ADVANCED METALS - 3906 (One Term)

Grades 11, 12

Prerequisite: Metals II or Welding Fabrication and Consent of Instructor

Course Description: This course is for students who want to build a personal project to showcase their metalworking skills. Instructor consent is required as well as instructor approval of a detailed project, plans and timeline prior to signing up for this class.

LAB FEE: $20.00 and cost of materials May be repeated once for credit

SMALL GAS ENGINES 3919 (One Term)

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Course Description: This course will cover the following topics: Four cycle engine theory, applications of small gas engines, complete disassembly, inspection and assembly of four cycle small gas engines, and overhaul procedures. All work will concentrate on the Briggs and Stratton engine. Each student is required to supply one single cylinder, four cycle, gas engine to work on.

POWERSPORTS - 3925 (One Term)

Grades 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: Small Gas Engines (C or better)

Course Description: This course is designed for the student who wishes to learn about: dirt bikes, outboards, chainsaws, mini-bikes, motorcycles, jet skis, snowmobiles and go karts. Areas covered will include engine types, induction, ignition, exhaust, drive types, wheel and tire maintenance, repair and replacement as well as project assembly and testing. Students will need a project to repair or maintain.

CAR CARE 3920 (One Term)

Grades 10, 11, 12

Course Description: Car Care is a class designed for the student who wishes to learn about vehicle maintenance, ownership costs and care. We will cover tips for searching for, evaluating and purchasing a vehicle and vehicle worth vs. repair cost. Subjects will be covered in the classroom with notes and chapter review work in the text and reinforced with demonstrations and shop practice on live cars in the shop. Car Care is not a pre requisite or substitute for Auto Tech 1. LAB FEE: $15.00

AUTO TECHNICIAN I - 3921/3922 (Two Terms)

Grades 10, 11, 12

Course Description: This course covers the operation and repair of the systems of the automobile. These systems include but are not limited to engine, power train, cooling, fuel, ignition, brakes, tires, suspension and electrical systems. You will be taught how to make your vehicle operate better, by knowing the intricacies of these systems. Lab time is available for you to fix and improve your vehicle. . GTC TRANSCRIPTED COURSE LAB FEE: $15.00


AUTO TECHNICIAN II 3923/3924 (Two Terms)


Prerequisite: C or better in Auto Tech I, - Driver’s License

Grades 10, 11, 12

Course Description: More advanced and technical systems of the vehicle are covered. Students will be responsible for completing a list of advanced repair tasks during the term. Vehicle diagnostics are used to troubleshoot problems. Students will gain in depth knowledge of how one system affects the other and how to solve these real world problems with vehicles. Students will be supplied with a toolbox and tools. Students will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the toolbox and its contents. A lab fee may be assessed to pay for missing or damaged tools and equipment. May be repeated once for credit LAB FEE: $15.00

AUTOMOTIVE PERFORMANCE TECHNICIAN 3926 (One Term)

Grades 11, 12

Prerequisite: Auto Tech II and consent of instructor

Course Description: High performance applications will be discussed and worked on in this class. The primary project will be assembly and tuning of the high school drag car as well as any performance application projects the students have. Metalworking and fabrication will used for body work, suspension and exhaust. Diagnostics and engine performance will be used for engine tuning and testing. Projects must be presented to instructor with a timeline before approval.

BASIC ELECTRONICS 3909 (One Term)

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: Algebra 1

Course Description: This course is an introductory level electronics course which will prepare students for future course work in Digital Electronics and robotics courses. The course will cover units in static electricity, DC circuits, series and parallel circuits, electric motors, printed circuit boards, component identification, and soldering skills. Students will solder a printed circuit board that they will keep. Basic algebra and equation solving skills will be needed to solve electronics problems. Lab Fee: $10.00

HOME MAINTENANCE 3913 (One Term)


Grades 10, 11, 12

Course Description: This course is designed for the individual who may be faced with repair and maintenance jobs around the home. It will prepare the do-it-yourself student with information on how to save time, money and frustration when making household repairs. Typical areas of coverage include: selection and care of tools, plumbing, plaster and drywall repairs, redecorating walls, (paint, tile, and wall coverings), heating systems, insulation, water supply, and waste water disposal. LAB FEE: $20.00

INTRODUCTION TO WOODS 3939/3940 (Two Terms)

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Course Description: Intro to Woods will begin with the proper use and care of woodworking hand tools. As the course progresses, the student will learn more about the safe and proper use of woodworking machinery. Students will also study basic woodworking concepts, including: squaring stock, gluing and squaring panels, basic joinery, wood fasteners, and finishing operations. The students will build two projects in class. LAB FEE: $50.00 (could be more depending on project)


RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION 3943/3944 (Two Terms)

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Course Description: Through the use of a small building project, this course covers many aspects of light frame construction. Some additional areas covered are; concrete, concrete block wall, and roof framing, exterior finish and roofing. During the second term, students will use the concepts learned to build sheds(or other project) which will be sold to the public. May be repeated once for credit.

COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION 3945/3946 (Two Terms)

Grades 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: Residential Construction

Course Description: Students will gain an in depth knowledge and understanding of Commercial Construction Processes. Students will take tours of various Construction Trades Facilities and job sites. Students will work first hand with members of the construction trades to gain knowledge of commercial wiring, plumbing, masonry, steel stud construction, flooring systems, ceiling systems, roofing, and exterior wrapping. During this class students will construct a store front from start to finish as well as various projects for local community members. In addition to the knowledge and skills obtained along with the connections for future employment, students will also receive 500 credit hours towards their Journeymans License through NCSRCC by pairing this class with Residential Construction also offered here. CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS CAPSTONE (Two Terms-Half day)

Offered beginning in 2022-23

Prerequisite - Commercial Construction

Students will utilize the skills gained in Residential and Commercial Construction classes to complete off site remodeling projects for local community members, work with a General Contractor to build a home from start to finish, or complete other major construction projects.
