RETROACTIVE CREDIT

The UW System and many other colleges offer free retroactive college credit for world language courses taken in high school. A student may earn up to 16 retro credits by completing an intermediate or advanced level class in college. Each additional high school class beyond Spanish I and II or German I and II increases the chances of earning retro credit. Students planning on earning retro credit or on “testing out” of a foreign language in college should plan on taking some of their foreign language classes during their senior year of high school.
