ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMMING Options

G.O.A.L (Four Terms)

Grades 9, 10

Course Description: G.O.A.L is an early intervention and failure prevention program for 15-20 incoming freshman students identified as at-risk and needing additional help transitioning to the high school setting and sophomores continuing in the program. G.O.A.L. programming will include but is not limited to educational support services, team building, mentor assistance, and counseling. Students will be selected on the basis of standardized test scores, report card grades, attendance, and counselor recommendation. If not recommended, parents may inquire about placement for their child. The G.O.A.L. team is responsible for final selection of enrolled students.


READING STRATEGIES (Four Terms)

This course will be scheduled based on teacher approval and the lexile score received on the Houghton Mifflin Reading Inventory

Grades 9, 10 (11 and 12 by referral only)

Course Description: Reading intervention program, which includes: direct instruction in reading and writing, independent reading and software that adjusts the level of instruction based on student performance.


ALGEBRA READINESS (One Term)

Prerequisite: Placement Test & 8th Grade Teacher Recommendation

Grade 9

Course Description: This course will cover topics that will help students get ready to take Algebra 1 at the high school. Topics to be covered: Number Sense, Graphing Inequalities, Solving 1/2-Step Equations, Writing Expressions, Solving Proportions, Substitution, Graphing, and How to use the Calculator.
