BIOLOGY 3406/3407 (2 Terms)

Grades 9

Course Description: The Biology course is a survey course which incorporates new perspectives and understanding across major sub-disciplines of biology. The course will have a lab-based approach, incorporating math and writing skills. Understanding through exploration is one goals of the course.

ACCELERATED BIOLOGY 3493/3494 (2 Terms)

Prerequisite: B or higher in Algebra and 8th grade science

Grades 9

Course Description: This is an accelerated course with content similar to the Biology curriculum. There is an additional emphasis on chemistry, and the areas of study are more thoroughly investigated. Greater emphasis is placed in student-centered laboratory activities. The use of critical thinking and problem solving is stressed. Maturity and the ability to learn material through independent work are critical.

CHEMISTRY 3414/3415 (Two Terms)

Prerequisite: Biology, or Accelerated Biology, and Algebra

Grades 10, 11, 12

Course Description: The Chemistry program introduces and builds upon chemical concepts through problem solving, experimentation, and learning of appropriate chemical terminology. Term one must be successfully completed to continue enrollment in term two.

ACCELERATED CHEMISTRY 3418/3419 (Two Terms)

Prerequisite: B or higher in Biology, or Accelerated Biology and B or higher in Algebra or Consent of Instructor

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Course Description: This course follows a similar progression as Chemistry while focusing on an increased depth of knowledge related to the interrelated nature of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This course is intended for students interested in taking AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, or in the Health Care Professional/Biomedical Career Pathway.
