Independent Study Options

Union Grove Union High School offers an Independent Study Program designed for student enrichment in grades 11 or 12. The purpose of Independent Study is threefold:

To explore and study in depth areas of content not available in the current curriculum.

To work with a Union Grove Union High School professional in a mentor relationship.

To design and implement a course of study that will enrich understanding of the subject utilizing a variety of experiences.

All students interested in pursuing an Independent Study course must follow procedures carefully.

● Carefully review present course offerings to ensure that the area of content is not available or that it is unavailable in depth.

● Meet with an instructor to evaluate the prospects of an Independent Study contract.*

● Carefully design a program that will meet the 1/2 credit requirement in terms of time and effort. The program must be clearly outlined with activities and evaluation procedures.

● Obtain signatures on the contract before signing up for the course during registration. Signatures include instructor, student, and the principal.

● Independent Study contract should act as a third and/or fourth class assignment.

* Teachers may deny Independent Study on the basis of schedule, past student performance in the area of content, or proposed student plan.

Independent Study may be offered in all content areas with instructor approval. Independent Study offers enrichment and advanced activities to study and analyze an area of content designed between the teacher and student.
