Graduation Requirements

Twenty-eight (28) credits of required and elective courses are needed to earn a high school diploma. In addition, it is expected that students complete eight (8) semesters (2 terms each) of attendance. Students are required to take four courses per term. This will usually result in 8 credits per year.

English 4.0 credits

Mathematics 3.0 credits

Science 3.0 credits

Social Studies 3.0 credits

Physical Education 1.5 credits

Career & Technology Education 1.0 credit

Fine Arts Education 1.0 credit

Freshman Health 0.5 credit

Total required Credits 17.0 credits

Parents and students are strongly encouraged to consult with a guidance counselor when selecting classes at all levels. Please be advised that many departments have strongly recommended sequences of courses. Please read carefully the overview of departments for information on fulfilling State and Board mandates (requirements) for graduation.

English - Four credits are required. Freshman English/Accelerated Freshman English, Soph. English/Accelerated Soph. English, Junior English/Accelerated Junior English and Senior English or AP Enlish Lit/Lang. Please pay attention to prerequisites before registering.

Math - Three credits of math are required for graduation. Please consult your counselor and refer to the flow chart on the math page for the correct sequence of courses.

Science - Three credits of science are required. Pay careful attention to prerequisites before registration. Please consult your counselor and refer to the flow chart on the science page for the correct sequence of courses.

Social Studies - Three credits are required for graduation. Required coursework includes one credit each of World History (or AP Human Geography), U.S. History (or AP US History), and Economics & Government (or AP Government). The sequence for taking these courses is outlined under the Social Studies plan. All students must pass the Civics exam taken during Government to graduate.

Phy.-Ed. - One and one - half credits required. Students are required to take levels I, II, III. **

Health - One - half credit is required for graduation. one half credit at the freshman level.

Career & Tech Ed. - One credit of Technical Education is required for graduation. This includes Computer/Business courses, Family and Consumer Ed. courses, select Digital Art courses or Tech Ed courses.

Fine Arts - One credit is required for graduation. This includes Theatre courses, Fine Arts courses or Music Courses.

**Based upon WI State statute 118.33(1(e), students with at least junior standing may substitute the 0.5 credit earned from completing a second PE II-III class with the 0.5 credit earned from completing an additional core curriculum class (math, social studies, English and science) if they are involved in a WIAA sanctioned sport or dance at the Junior Varsity or Varsity level.
