Scheduling

Scheduling is divided into three parts. The first is the actual sign-up for courses. Students will be given information regarding the courses that are offered and a registration timeline. It is advised that students consult their school counselor for a credit check. Teachers are always available for specific program questions. The second part will be verification of the course work. Pre-requisite completion and eligibility for course work will be checked by counselors. Actual course scheduling will be done as described below. Parents are asked to work with students in choosing and approving course requests that will be utilized in their final schedule.

Scheduling is done with students in order of grade level, starting with future seniors and working down to the incoming freshman class. Students scheduling for his or her junior or senior school year will have a window of time to complete their schedules independently, online over the course of a few days. Students going into sophomore year and incoming freshmen will submit course requests and their schedules will be built by Skyward. All students will see their final schedules once they are posted on Skyward about a month before the school year starts. In block scheduling there exists the opportunity to accelerate in subject areas during one school year. For instance, a student could take Algebra 2 during Terms 1 and 2, and then Pre-Calculus during Terms 3 and 4. The Curriculum Guide outlines the pre-requisites and grade level required for each course. It has been brought to our attention that some students and families may wish to make choices to accelerate the curriculum in a manner that does not fit within the guidelines listed in the Curriculum Guide. Recently an increased number of students and families have inquired about the possibility of waiving pre-requisites and grade level requirements. For this to occur a student must complete the following:

1. Meet with their counselor and discuss the pros and cons of an accelerated program.

2. Obtain a consent form and have it signed by: Academic Teacher, Principal and Parent.

3. Return the completed form to Student Services prior to the start of the term.
