Physical Education and Health

**Based upon WI State statute 118.33(1(e), students with at least junior standing may substitute the 0.5 credit earned from completing a second PE II-III class with the 0.5 credit earned from completing an additional core curriculum class (math, social studies, English and science) if they are involved in a WIAA sanctioned sport or dance at the Junior Varsity or Varsity level. See your counselor for a permission slip.

PERSONAL TRAINING/ADVANCED FITNESS 3812 (One Term)

Recommended for students who earned an A or B in previous PE course.

Grades 10, 11, 12

Course Description: This is a course designed to introduce and develop the various skills and techniques of weight training and physical fitness including muscular strength and endurance, agility, speed and flexibility. Students will log their progress throughout the term. Fitness testing will be done at the beginning and end of the term to measure individual progress. Students may elect to take Personal Training more than once.


TRENDS IN FITNESS AND NUTRITION 3821 (One Term)

Prerequisite: PE I

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Course Description: This course is an elective course that allows students to experience new and current trends in fitness, nutrition, and stress management. Students will investigate ways to manage stress through relaxation techniques and understand the relationship between mind and body. Students will experience a wide variety of fitness workouts to help improve their cardiovascular efficiency, strength, flexibility, and body composition. Some activities include: Yoga, Pilates, self-defense, boot camp circuit training, guided relaxation and more. (There is a $10 Course Fee to cover the trip to Burlington Wellness Center)

SPORTS EDUCATION LEADERSHIP - 3822 (One Term)

Prerequisite: PE I and PE II/III

Grades 11, 12

Course Description: This course involves sports seasons rather than units. Students will be drafted onto teams and given leadership roles. These roles include: head coach, assistant coach, referee, scorekeeper, trainer, and manager. They will practice and work out as a team including a fitness test every Wednesday. They will scrimmage and have a culminating event at the end of each sports season. Sports included in the class are: basketball, volleyball, softball, and/or football. Students will be heavily involved in day to day activity during the seasons. There will be rules and officials tests for each season to prepare students for their job as referees in the class for any given sport. Students will learn to create goals, promote teamwork, loyalty, commitment, perseverance, and dedication. They will work on socialization skills, leadership skills, participation in physical activity, as well as enhancing their knowledge and enthusiasm for sports.

PE - INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM GAMES - 3515 (One Term)

Course Description: This course will emphasize the recreational value of both team sports and individual sports. This course may be repeated. FEES: $5.00 if lock is not turned in at end of term and a bowling unit fee of $30.00.
