Developing Models for Estimating Winter Road Weather and Surface Conditions - A case Study
Developing Models for Estimating Winter Road Weather and Surface Conditions - A case Study
PI: Dr. Tae J. Kwon

Considering Alberta’s vast road network and the possible inclement winter weather conditions, it is important to accurately estimate the road weather and surface condition of locations between RWIS stations to create safer road conditions for travelers. To overcome this shortcoming, the focus must move away from just ‘measuring’ to ‘modelling’. Therefore, the primary objective of this project is to develop a series of advanced mathematical models to estimate key road weather and surface condition variables - road surface index (RSI) and road surface temperature (RST).
