Mahmoud began his MSc in Transportation Engineering in September 2025 under the supervision of Prof. Tae J. Kwon. His current research explores the optimization of winter road maintenance through artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision analysis.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Systems and Biomedical Engineering from Cairo University, where his academic and research focus centered on multimodal AI systems, large language models (LLMs) and their applications in the medical field, as well as computer vision. His graduation project involved developing a multimodal AI-based system for detecting and tracking autistic behavioral and communication patterns using state-of-the-art models for video, image, and audio analysis.
Professionally, Mahmoud has worked as an AI Engineer at EzzMedical Industries, the company that produced the first ICU ventilator entirely manufactured in Egypt. In this role, he optimized data flow and analysis pipelines, developed internal systems to improve efficiency and productivity, built an AI-powered risk management system, and fine-tuned LLMs for internal applications.
Outside of his academic and professional work, Mahmoud enjoys playing soccer, traveling, discovering new restaurants, and supporting his favorite teams, FC Barcelona and Al-Ahly SC.
