About Andy Wong
Andy is an Edmonton native and has attended the University of Alberta throughout his studies taking advantage of having a world class University in his hometown. He first completed his BSc in Statistics in 2006 and went on to pursue a career as a data analyst until 2008 where he decided to enrich his skill set by going back to school to obtain a Civil Engineering Degree with an Environmental Engineering Option. With a new goal and renewed determination, he graduated with this degree in 2012 and went on to work as a Junior Project Engineer with Al-Terra Engineering Ltd. working exclusively as a Construction Engineer.
His time as a field engineer saw him work in the land development industry from residential to industrial, as well as transportation projects for various municipalities and the province of Alberta. It was his time working on Highway 604 Stage 1 realignment and the conversion of the Highway 13 and 21's signalized intersection into a large roundabout, that must also accommodate the the Over-sized loads as it is part of the Over-sized Load Corridor, that introduced him to the field of transportation engineering and gained a keen interest in the subject, specifically in planning, modelling, and forecasting.
Under the supervision of Dr. Tae J. Kwon, Andy completed his Master of Science degree in Transportation Engineering in June 2021.
Master of Science Degree
Date of Defence: June 09, 2021
Thesis topic: Advances in Kriging-Based Modelling Approaches of Winter Weather Vehicular Collisions - A Region-Wide Geostatistical Investigation
Andy was a project manager working with Dr. Kwong and Dr. El-Basyouny on Evaluating Effectiveness of Blue-Amber Light Configurations on Maintenance Vehicles During Inclement Weather Conditions, an Alberta Transportation safety research project. He is now a Highway Planning Engineer with Alberta Transportation.
