About Lian Gu
Hailing from Haimeng Nantong, China, Lian Gu received her Bachelor of Engineering from Jilin University in China in 2016. Then in September 2016, she began her MSc studies at the University of Alberta. By January 2019 she completed her MSc degree in Transportation Engineering from the University of Alberta with her thesis, titled "Developing Models for Estimating Winter Road Weather and Surface Conditions–An Empirical Investigation".
Master of Science Degree:
Date of Defence: December 10, 2018
Thesis topic: Developing Models for Estimating Winter Road Weather and Surface Conditions–An Empirical Investigation
Upon graduation, she worked as a research assistant for Dr. Kwon advancing her research into application of state-of-the-art geomatics and advanced (geo-)statistical methods and surface transportation.
Lian is now part of the City of Edmonton's Urban Analysis Team as a Junior Project Engineer. The duties of this position is to provide technical support to the Urban Form and Corporate Strategy Department and other City Departments in the provision of travel demand forecasting and traffic operational analysis to ensure the informed decision making in planning, operating and managing the transportation system and cost-effective improvements.
Research Interests
Winter Transportation Engineering
Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)
Spatial and temporal analyses of road surface condition
Geostatistical Analysis and Optimization of Road Weather Information System (RWIS)
