At Sunnymede Primary school we aim to foster a love for mathematics. We endeavor to create confident and life-long mathematicians that challenge and question their own understanding. Sunnymede pupils strive to be fluent in their mathematical skills, problem solve and master learning at their own level.

TTRs champions
The following children achieved the fastest time on TTRs for their year group in the Summer term of 2025.
Year 3
Harry W (1.73 seconds)
Year 4
Damian Simon (0.68 seconds)
Year 5
Isaac Crosswell (0.53 seconds)
Year 6
Jamie D (0.88 seconds)
Mathematics Enrichment Day
On June 25th, we held our 3 annual mathematics enrichment day for KS2 and the first for KS1. Year 3 and 4 were tasked with building a bridge that could support weight using paper and paper straws only. Year 5 and 6 were challenged with creating Rube Goldberg machines to catapult a figurine as high as possible into the air. The children worked amazingly in teams problem solving where necessary and securing and embedding their mathematical skills.
KS1 created Rocket Mice made from paper and assorted decorative material. The challenge was to see how far their mouse could be propelled from a plastic bottle.
A fun day was had by all!
What on Earth does that mean?
Mathematics can be a minefield of terminology and it is important that the correct terms are used and in the right context. Below are links to glossaries from other sources.

What mental math strategies do we use?
Mental math skills are incredibly important. They underpin a range of mathematic domains and, therefore, without them pupils find work more challenging. Below you will find our Progression map that gives the objectives, resources and strategies per year group.
