Week beginning 14th October
This week has been our DT week. The children started the week by designing a fire engine in their groups and then making their own chassis with wheels and an axle. Wednesday saw them making all of the accessories to go on their fire engine and Thursday saw them building their fire engine and adding the pre-made accessories. It was lovely to see them working well as part of a team and listening to the ideas of others whilst giving their own ideas. Thank you to everyone who donated cardboard boxes for us to use.
October
In Religion and Worldviews (RWV), Year 2 have been learning about kindness and have related this to stories in the bible. We summarised the stories of 'Jesus and the Paralysed Man', 'the Good Samaritan' and 'Five Loaves and a Fish' and explored how Jesus showed kindness in these stories. To relate this to ourselves, we thought about how we can show kindness in our lives.
Billericay Dance Workshop - 30th September
Year 2 were very lucky today. We were joined by year 9, 10 and 11 students from Billericay School who are studying dance as part of their GCSE learning. They warmed up our year 2 pupils by making different poses to dance music and then showed us their dance routine. They then took smaller groups of children and taught them the dance routine and worked on making some dance moves of their own. We performed our dance routines to the class and all had a great time. Thank you to the girls from Billericay School for making a fun afternoon.
The Great Fire of London workshop
We started Year 2 off with an immersive workshop all about our history topic, The Great Fire of London. Both classes had history brought to life as they watched and reenacted significant parts of this epic tale. They loved acting and taking on roles of historical people from the past.
Welcome to the year 2 page! We will post monthly updates here which will include pictures of the children working and some of their work as an insight into what they are learning about in school. We're really looking forward to working with your children and watching them grow. We will have our meet the teacher session on Tuesday 9th September after school in the hall - we really hope you can make it!
Miss Aston and Mrs Pye
Reading is a key part of learning and through a range of texts, we hope children become immersed and enjoy reading for pleasure.
Here is a list of recommended reads for Year 2 to help inspire and excite children.
