Ralph Lauren is an American fashion designer who, by developing his brand around the image of an elite American lifestyle, built one of the world’s most successful fashion empires.
Cooking at home
Cooking is a vital part of our Design Technology curriculum and baking or cooking at home is a great way to support healthy eating, hygiene and culinary skills. At Sunnymede, we follow a evaluate, design, make and evaluate cycle for each unit we complete. Design Technology can be completed at home in various ways:
evaluate existing structures
propose how to improve structures and designs
design a new product or component
make a prototype and test it out to see if it works

Design and technology in action in KS2
YEAR 3
We have been busy making pop-up cards in our Design Technology lessons. At first, it was a little bit tricky and we had to listen and follow instructions carefully. Our cards look amazing. What do you think?
Some children were so inspired, they went home and researched pop-up cards independently!

Year 3 Design Technology
On Tuesday, year 3 were very busy making their picture frames. We had previously designed our frames and chose our favourite. We then had to use our maths skills to measure, marking our strip of wood so we knew where to cut. Some of us found sawing very challenging and others had very good sawing skills. Lots of children told us how much their arm was aching and how much they were sweating!!!
Year 4
In Design and Technology, year 4 designed their own Shadufs. A shaduf (or a shadoof) is an irrigation tool. It is highly efficient, and has been known of since 3000 BCE. This tool is used to lift water from a water source onto land or into another waterway or basin. It was especially used in Egypt to collect water from the River Nile.
At first, we investigated possible options for a working shaduf and then we created planned and created our own prototypes using paper straws.
Finally, we measures our wood and then used saws carefully to cut them to the desired length and then attached them together. We were all really happy with our designs.
Year 4 made Vitumbua (Tanzanian-style coconut doughnuts) when studying Tanzania during multicultural week
Year 5
In design and technology, year 5 designed their own biscuits with a specific theme. Some examples included Easter, Valentine's, football and Winter.
Year 5 tasted and evaluated biscuits before conducting a survey. Inspired by The Apprentice, we then designed cookies with a particular theme. Can you tell what our theme is?
In design & technology, year 5 made movable toys using a cam and a follower, linked to our topic on the rainforests.
