Abstract Zoomed Shoe

Printmaking Paper, Thin Point Marker, Ruler, and Colored Pencil

For this artist statement I am choosing to write about my summative pure contour zoomed shoe project. The main idea behind this was that we needed to draw three views of our shoe. Once we did this then we chose one area to blow up three separate times. After this we chose one of the blown up sections to copy down on our paper and either create something realistic or abstract. When I copied down my section I didn't really see anything that could be used in a realism piece. With this being said I decided that I would create abstract work and for that I made a different pattern in each section. Although there are multiple sections there was only one section I had that was inspired. I chose to make a halloween section because it is getting close to halloween.

For this project I used printmaking paper, Thin Point Marker, a Ruler, and Colored Pencils. The printmaking paper was used to copy down my blown up drawing of my shoe that was the main design behind my work. Next I used the ruler in the section located in the middle because I wanted straight proportional grids. I used multiple different colors of thin point marker because that is how I made the line of the patterns stand out. Finally the last material I used was colored pencils. I used the colored pencils to fill in the space between and inside the patterns because I wanted no white space in my work although I think it could have enhanced some of the designs on my drawing.

For this project I first drew three views of my shoes. After I was done with that I blew up one section in one of the drawings three times. After I had done that I chose one of those blown up images on paper and turned that into my final project. For this I did no research because of the fact that all I had to do was look at my shoe then draw it and then put it on another piece of paper and then just add color and patterns to it. The only practice I did for this was I drew the pumpkins quickly on a separate piece of paper because I wanted to get a feel at how to make them proportional. For this I made one key revision because I was originally gonna draw a different section of my blown up image but it didn't have enough lines so I decided to go with this section. For this project I experimented with the idea of making abstract work instead of realistic work because usually I like to create realism in my work instead of abstraction.
