For this artist statement I am choosing to write about the Frontal View Of a Shoe that I drew. The main idea behind this artwork was that we were supposed to draw either our shoe or another shoe. The whole idea of this was to show what we knew about pure contour. This project or practice also helped with our skill of drawing from observation. For example you had to put your shoe in a certain position then you had to draw what you see. One thing that this project taught me was that shoes have more details than you think. I think this also helped with my ability to notice small details like how my shoe is put together. In conclusion the main idea behind this piece of work was to show what you know about pure contour drawings by drawing your shoe and hand.
For this drawing the materials used were limited. One material that I used was an HB pencil. I used this pencil first because it is easy to erase and I could create an outline. Then once I was done with the HB pencil I used a 6B pencil. I used this pencil because it was helpful to darken my lines and you couldn't see my sketch lines. The other material that I used was paper and we just used normal drawing paper since this wasn't a summative and it was only practice. In conclusion the materials used were graphite pencils and regular drawing paper.
For this project I didn't do any research. The reason for this is because of the fact that I didn't need to if I already had the shoe right in front of me. I did do a little practice. My practice included making a quick sketch of the shoelaces because I don't often draw them and I knew they would be hard. Even after doing this I am not overly thrilled with how they turned out. Although I didn't revise anything looking back I wish I would have revised the shoelaces on the side view of my shoe. The only experiment I did was which shoe I wanted to draw. I was deciding between a no laces shoe or one with laces and I decided to challenge myself and do one with laces.
