Final Photo
For this project we were asked to make a stamp that we would sign our work with. This project was kind of loose and lenient because it was more to just get a feel for what clay is like and get our creativity flowing. For this subject I kind of just went for it and carved into the stamp whatever came to my mind first. I think that one of the big things that this project worked on was getting a feel for certian tools. The tool that I used the most was a needle tool. For this project there wasn't a specific technique that was required. I would say the main technique created was the pinch technique because that is how you got your stamp to take its shape.
For this project the steps were quite simple. The first step was to create sketches of ideas that we might want to work with. After we had our idea finished and ready to roll we created our stamp. After our stamp was created it was time to carve into the flat side of the stamp. For this project I carved with a needle tool because I felt that I had the most control with this tool. After our stamp was carved and dried out it was time for the final step which was a bisque firing so that our stamps would hold their shape. Usually, we have one more step which is glazing them but for this project, we didn't need to glaze them because they were just going to be used for signature and not put on display or anything like that. As the project went on my design changed. As you can see I had three designs chosen for my final but then never actually did any of them. The reason that I went away from this is because I quickly realized you cannot fit that much detail onto such a small surface.
To this project, there really is no meaning behind it. I just wanted to create something abstract that made the viewer ask themself what is going on. I also want to inspire people to use their imagination when creating art. The project relates to my life because I enjoyed geometry and this project includes multiple geometric shapes. The thing that I am most proud of in this piece of art is the triangle and how you can see the lines. Before when I carved this I was making the lines too deep so you couldn't tell what I depicted but with this stamp you can clearly see what I am trying to make. I think the thing that I wish I could change would be the design. I wish I would have made a larger face for my stamp so I could fit more detail and shapes on my stamp.
