Art History Inspired Project

Artist Inspired Project

Marker, Graphite Pencil, and Water Color Paper

9x11

For this project, the idea was that we needed to create a project inspired by two different artists or art movements of our choosing. The first artist that I chose to draw inspiration from was Andrew Wyeth. I liked Andrew because I thought it was cool that he made works that involved places in Maine. I thought that it would be cool to do this because it helps me relate to the work better. I also drew inspiration from Wyeth because he usually involves nature in his work so I drew an elephant. The second artist that I drew inspiration from was Vance Kirkland. I drew inspiration from him because he has a studio based in Denver Colorado. One way that I showed inspiration from him was by drawing the state flag and the State itself.

For this project, the materials were rather simplistic. The first thing that I used was a graphite pencil. I used an HB pencil so that I could outline everything that I wanted to incorporate. The next material that I used was markers. I used markers this time because I wanted the work to be bold. The final material I used was watercolor paper. I used watercolor paper because I didn't want the marker to bleed through the paper too badly.

For this project, there was quite a bit of research done. First, we had to research a movement and then an artist to go along with that movement. When I did this I quickly realized that the artists and art movement I was assigned didn't fit my taste of art. This lead me to do some more research until I found the artists Andrew Wyeth and Vance Kirkland. For this project, some practice was required. For the first part of this project, we needed to create a sketch of what we wanted our project to look like. Based on this sketch I changed my project incredibly. I chose to change my project because I didn't like the way everything went together. For this project, the only revisions I did was the layout of my project from the first draft because getting it down on paper made it look not so good. For this project, I really didn't experiment all that much. The only experiment I did was using markers since I don't use them that often but I liked how they made the colors darker. The only downside to markers is that they get weaker as you use them so that makes the color uneven throughout the whole project.
