Donate Life
Colored Pencil and Marker on Drawing Paper
9" x 12"
For this project, we were tasked with making a piece that inspired people to sign up for organ and tissue donation when they pass away. The main idea for my artwork's message is in the windows. In this piece, I made the sun into the shape of a heart. Once I did this I colored all of the windows in red. I did this because the blood from the heart was powering the city much like a solar city if it were in real life with the sun. My slogan was "Give a city some light..." and that light was represented in red. I wanted the piece to kind of have a happy feeling to it after people read the slogan since I assume that people are very happy once people donate organs to them.
For this project, the materials were different than expected. I originally thought that I was going to use only cut paper for this project. After starting with the cut paper I quickly realized that it would be very difficult to have a border to the right dimensions. I chose to use colored pencils, marker, and drawing paper instead. The marker was only to make the border and the outline of the buildings plus write the words. After I did that I colored in the buildings plus the border with the colored pencils that I wanted and obviously I used drawing paper for my drawing.
For this project, the process was fairly easy and quick. First, we had to do two sketches of what we wanted to do and after we did these we picked one to follow through with and turn into a final draft. For this project, I really did minimal research. I only looked up cityscapes because I wanted this to be pretty accurate. For this, the only practice that I did was I created the two sketches and picked the one I liked better. The only revision I did to this was I changed the shape of the buildings. In the beginning, I had the buildings all the same but then changed them because it would have been boring if they were all the same. During the process of creating this piece, I really had no experiments because I had used all of the materials throughout the year.
