Cubism Color Design

12"x 16"

Acrylic on Canvas

For this project, we needed to show our knowledge for colors. In this project, we needed to paint primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. Once we had all of the colors made up we needed to paint three tints and shades for each color. Once all of the project was done we ended with 84 different tints/shades of color. One thing that I don't like about painting is how similar some of the colors are. In this project, I noticed that the colors with the most black just looked straight black and that is one thing that I didn't like. The main idea that guided my artwork was cubism style of work. Although my work doesn't create the illusion other works do I still like how pure each section is.

The materials for this project were very simple and mostly the same for everyone. In this project, we used acrylic paint. I like using acrylic paint because it is quick to go over sections with and also it dry's quicker. One thing that I don't like about painting is that it is harder to go over the lighter the color is. I chose to use the medium size of canvas because I knew my sections would be too big if I chose the biggest size canvas and too small if I chose the smallest size. One thing that I don't like about my sections is that they are still are uneven.

For this project I never really researched. The only part that you could call research is when we learned about cubism. I think that this could be considered research because it is the idea that guided my work. For this project, we did have some practice. Since it was our first time painting this year we needed to knock the rust off. The practice for this project was that we needed to make a value strip before making our final project. For this project, I made no revisions. I think with painting sometimes it can be hard to revise because it can be hard to cover certain colors up. For me this whole project was an experiment. I never really paint so one way that this was an experiment was seeing how all of the colors flow together and this could help for future projects because it may help with the composition of colors that I want to create.
