The Angry Ducks

Art Paper

Artist Statement

In this piece of artwork there are angry ducks that are watching as a pirate ship as it passes through. I would say it lets you wonder why the ducks are angry. Well, this wasn’t really my choice, but yet a choice coming from WatchamaDrawit. It was still a fun project and one of the reasons I enjoyed it because it made me draw something I’ve never really drawn before it put me outside my comfort zone. Which I think was a good thing because, in order to become better with different aspects and properties of art you have to go outside of your comfort zone.

I used my own pencil and to draw the outlines and such and make the art come to life and look nice and neat. I used my pencil along with a 4b pencil I had with me to try and give shading to some of the clouds and rocks and the ship. I had an artist notebook which is where I happened to be able to draw and make my art. I tried to not make lines that were straight and that had no character to it. I tried making the lines more jagged like on a stormy day at sea which is what I was going for in the background of my picture. I really like how it came out and I hope to come back to this website and look at this art work and see if I could make it better than it is.

At first, I didn’t feel like it was evolving because I didn’t think it was looking good but I had to go over it multiple times for it to evolve in a way I was ok with. It went from not having detail and being straight regular lines to having a jagged effect of a stormy day with some clouds overhead and I added some waves and feathers to the ducks to make the art evolve to something much better than the original. I could’ve added some color to it maybe even though I liked the way the black and white looked because it made things feel more cool and dark and stormy. But I think if I had some right colors adding some dark colors of purple for the clouds to give them a shadow and adding a rain effect and making the ducks more detailed and angry at the pirate ship.
