Artist Statement

One of the ideas I had was a messy mug that had some liquid dripping out of it that had that hot steam that comes out of mugs when something hot has been poured into it. This relates to what my mother or sister do every morning is make their morning drinks before they are off to do work. For my sister whenever she makes her morning drink it’s always messy and she usually overfills the mug and has remnants that are left behind after she was done.

I used a regular pencil, That’s all I really used for this project and well I used my hands for the shading to distinguish some things from other things. Like for example the cap above being held up by a hand and below it is the mug I shaded that in between space so that it would look like there was possibly some heat coming from the mug. Then I used my pencil to make my lines look stronger and more defined, I also used my pencil to make some shading for the wall in the background of the image so there would be a background to the art.

I started with just outlining the piece with pencil and starting with a simple sketch of the scene, I started with the mug because it was the main focus of the art. I then after finishing the mug I added some background like a wall and brought a countertop from the background to the foreground. Then I added a spoon and other little additions to try and finish the product. My project went from, being without much detail with the background to adding some detail and making the background actually look like a background and then from there I just added little details like I added some shading to the walls and added a part of a sink to the side and based most of this off of my kitchen and formed the kitchen. My next step would be to add some extra detail to the countertops like if the countertops is marble or wood or whatever it may be.
