Artist Statement: The idea was to make something realistic out of colored pencil but it didn’t end up looking as spiffy as I wanted to , which means I need to reflect on how I will color for projects in the future. Maybe I need to use different resources to color in my projects like watercolor or marker, and how good am I in categories like those and what are some techniques with coloring and shading do I need to enhance on? and so on. I chose to use the Haribo gummy cherries because I thought it would be cool to try them for the candy still life and I thought it would be a bit easier. However it was not super easy and I don’t believe I spent enough time on the coloring side of the project. I think If I would’ve spent more time on the coloring side of the project it would’ve ended up better and I would’ve felt more accomplished after finishing it.

I used a regular pencil to get the lines in for how I wanted the Haribo cherries to be represented just like the picture I used for reference. I got the lines down with the pencil then I moved over to shading with colored pencil which I thought would be good and due to a lack of colored pencils I used one green one that didn’t quite turn out how I expected and then I used the rest of the colors that worked with the theme of the packaging of the Haribo cherries and I thought I was done

I started out with the basic lines of the subject of which I was drawing and then I colored it in but not really finding a right way to color it and I felt lost with the project and then the results just looked like I had rushed. It went from being the basic outline of the Haribo package to being full of the colors you see in the reference photo but at the same time it sort of downgraded because the coloring did not shade well and did not finish off well which is where I would need to improve and is where I will probably redo if I were to redo this project. Some other next steps would be to advance in the strategy of coloring maybe study some different ways and practice it so when I redo this project I can make it look more realistic and even closer to the reference photo.
