linoleum

Tower to Sunset

Artist Statement: When coming up with something for the linoleum print, I started with brainstorming with things I liked, such as city views, New York, Baseball, Basketball and so on. Eventually I got the idea to do a building like a skyscraper almost and I thought it would be neat to try and make it. I thought of also putting a billboard on top of the skyscraper that said “Give Love” because during tumultuous times like these the one thing that can bind one another together is to give love and show compassion.

I used a u shape tool for most of it, it was one of the moderate sized ones and I used that one to outline the building and make it feel like a building, then I used more of a v shaped add on to get the windows sharpened in. I wanted some depth with the skyscraper but with the size linoleum I had, I wasn’t sure what tools to use to make it that way so ultimately I stayed safe with my work. The form was important to me so I did practice a bit to get a rhythm and maybe a pattern and at first I felt i had something better than the other practice piece I used.

I wanted to bring depth to my work so I continued my brainstorming and I decided to give it a bit of a 3D look even though now looking at it, it doesn't look the way I was hoping. I continued with it. I also decided to experiment with the materials I used on another block but it didn’t look the way I was hoping either so I continued with what I originally had. I didn’t give the project much research because I thought I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted but if I were to do the start up process again I would research more.
