Blind Contour Project

The light raining on the scribbled man

Materials: Regular Pen and Pencil

Size: 9x12 (inches)

Artist Statement: The Idea of the person under the light letting it rain on them is the idea that they’re letting the light come in and not be closed off from them. The hood is representing that they still need to take off their hood and let the light in on their life. It relates to my life and maybe many others, in the fact that there is a constant struggle with letting the positive factors of life in your life for some people who struggle with anxiety or other things this can be a struggle day in and day out. For me I always ask and wonder if I am doing the right thing and what I want to do in the future and making sure the people around me are nice and supportive people.

I used a regular pen and pencil to make the lines and shading for the art piece. I simply used this because it was all that I had when doing this project. But the basis of the project which is the scribbles came from the pen and is unique because when using the pencil to shade in and add some extra details it still showed the pen which was unique in my mind. The pen stayed an outline which was one of the factors I really liked because you could see where I started and where the lines took me and what is the finished product.

I started with the scribbling and getting the lines down to start a foundation for what could come from the creativity of a mind. It evolved from the random scribbles that didn’t look like anything at first, to being more than just scribbles to a person and face that looks messy but is seen and understood. My next steps could be adding more color rather than pencil and making it looks more vibrant and give it a glow to it and maybe add some background features other than just the light hanging over the person in the artwork.
