step out onto the street

Materials: Paper, Pictures and Lettering.

Size: 8x11(inches)

Artist Statement: The Idea that guided my work was inspiring people to step outside their comfort zone but at the same time be safe and make boundaries for yourself. Hence the bike line next to the curb of the sidewalk, the words were also there for show of me and some of the qualities I find important. This was to show people you can take risk (like being in the road) while also being in an area where you can have some comfort in to be somewhat safe while taking a risk. Something you have to do in many different aspects of life such as sports and art.

I used black paper and some pictures of a curb to bring in the idea of a sidewalk/road and then to show the biking lane for which many more experienced bikers will use rather than the sidewalk. It’s a sign of risk to be in the biking lane when you’re just getting into biking. I then used words I had found around the house to give it some form to me, As well as value and recognition and a reminder for me on how I still need to take risks when getting into sports and art.

I was trying to get down to the idea of a safe risk while also giving an secret element of danger which is the roads, I wanted to show that people can still take safe risks and that there is a fine line between safe and over-crossing or jaywalking over the safe risk. I put down words for describing me and how I need to have a safe risk for my career as an athlete, I need to be able to light a fire under my feet and breeze through the open road for an athlete. There can be many different standpoints for this and my words added on there were more of an example.
