Abstract Zoomed Shoe
11" x 14"
Crayola markers, HB graphite pencil, eraser, sharpie, and printmaking paper.
Both pieces were a new way for me to play around with being creative, and looking at specific elements of art pieces, and turning them into something different and new. The three zoomed views of a shoe were my initial starting point, this is how I gave myself three different options to decide what worked best for my final piece. Once I decided, I had to choose a design that fit what I was going for. I wanted this piece to be playful and a little childish while also showing a little dimension. I believe I accomplished what I was trying to say with my art piece.
Both pieces started out with a piece of paper and some graphite pencils. For the 3 zoomed views I only used those materials, along with a viewfinder to find the specific places from my shoe drawing I wanted to draw. This is when I drew my first zoomed-in box and then continued to zoom in on each drawing 2 more times. This is how I resulted in my three zoomed views. Then it was time to move on to my final piece. The materials I used for this piece were a little more complicated. I began by drawing the outline of my selected zoomed piece with an HB graphite pencil and then went over the final drawing with newly added details in sharpie. This is when I finished by coloring it in with Crayola markers, and photographing my final piece.
There was not a ton of research done for this piece, but there was a lot of practicing a revising my ideas and sketches. I started out doing fine with my 3 zoomed views and only having to sketch them out once before the outline, but my final piece was a different story. I struggled to find a design I wanted to make, and then once I finally figured it out, it was hard for me to visualize it. After talking to some friends about my ideas, they and I decided it would be cool to turn nature into a childish house. This is where my idea came from. Then I did research on nature that kids love, and decided on a mushroom. I remember growing up as a child I loved to look at nature and turn them into different houses for fairies, so I feel as though this final piece is connecting me to my childhood.
