With these pieces, I was focused on the idea of using negative space to create something unique with my art. With the zentangle values, I wanted to show my understanding of shading through a layered outline, so I decided the feather had the perfect amount of layers I was going for. For my space hand drawings I wanted to show my understanding of negative space on a simpler level, showing hands through shaded outlines. Finally in my negative space leaves I wanted to show how I can take simple leaf outlines and turn them into something more broad and intriguing.

To make these pieces, I used the basic materials of paper and HB and B graphite pencils. These were the only materials used for my space hand drawing, but not for the other pieces. The zentangle values piece used a thin point sharpie for all of the small details and outlines. This is the same case for the negative space leaves, except I used a thin point black pen for the outlines of the leaves only, and then used assorted colored pencils to fill in all of the details and outlines.

For all three pieces I did research and rivsements throughout the whole process to get my final results. For my zentangle piece I used the outline of a feather from the website linked below for my outline and then pinterest to figure out different types of patterns and shapes I liked. The space hand drawings were slightly easier on the research side because I used my own hands as my inspiration and just needed to figure out the right positions to hold them in. After limiting my options down to two different hand positions I was finally ready to begin the drawing aspect. Finally, the negative space leaves were based off of six different leaves I selected from outside arranged how I liked, and then research was done to figure out my background. I finally decided to draw mountains because I had always loved them and they had a special meaning to me and my grandmother, so after deciding to do a landscape, I knew mountains were what I wanted to draw.
