Extended Blind Contour

Disaster

Mixed-media sketchbook paper, sharpie, Pentel markers

When we were doing blind contour drawings in class, I was on zoom and I had my dog, River, and her caterpillar sitting next to me. We started out with more basic things, our hands and our faces, but then for the final piece had to pick something near us and draw that. Originally I had chosen River's caterpillar because it has an interesting, yet fairly simple shape. This was going fine until River rolled over on top of it halfway through my drawing. I could have just eyeballed the rest of it, but I decided to just add River to the final result instead. Now you can see bits of my hand, hair, and sweatshirt in the back, and River and her caterpillar in the center of the page.

I used mixed-media sketchbook paper, a faulty sharpie that didn't draw half the lines I made (which I did not notice until the end of the third drawing) and a set of Pentel markers.

We all turned our papers as we went so that each new drawing filled in more and more white space on the page, but I didn't like the way it made it chaotic and difficult to see what was drawn. My paper went from having just an odd looking face and hand with a stuffed caterpillar dog toy over it all to having the dog in the middle as well. If I were to continue work on/redo this drawing I would focus in on River and her caterpillar instead of having tons of layers of different things that make it hard to tell what anything is supposed to be.
