Artist Statement:
For this project, I created a greenhouse/green space to demonstrate the positive ways in which humans can impact the environment. I filled the greenhouse with various plants and vegetables, surrounded by fruit trees to represent at-home/sustainable farming practices.
For this project, I used a variety of materials. I used watered down gouache so I would have less saturated colors. I wanted the final product to look like a vintage card or stamp. I also used black gel pen and shades of green, brown and red for outlines and to add small details. Finally, I went in with white gel pen to bring out highlights and make the greenhouse have a more glassy appearance.
For this project, I went through a few processes. I looked up various pictures of greenhouses and plants, and began by sketching out a layout for the greenhouse. I also experimented with more opaque colors to get a softer appearance to the artwork. Finally, I expiriemneted with layering goaucahe for the trees to add more depth and texture.
