Artist Statement

For this project, I decided to follow my newly critiqued prompt, showing both the negative and positive human impact on the environment. For this project I decided to draw a climate protest, with people holding a variety of signs with different messages about the environment. I connected each message to the themes in all of my sustained investigations leading up to this.

For this project, I used blick studio markers for smooth vibrant colors, as well as gel pen to add small details, and pen and sharpie for the words, and to outline each of the signs and people to make them stand out more.

For this project, I experimented a bit with abstraction. I wanted the people to look almost cartoonish and each connected to each other rather than focusing on accurate proportions. I also expirimented with markers, a material I have never used in any of my projects in my art classes so far. I had to experiment with building the colors, and layering them for a bit more dimension.
