Self Portrait

For this project we were required to use the grid method and create a self portrait. We had done a self portrait where we looked in the mirror and had to draw ourselves and then we did this one to show improvement from just drawing then drawing square by square. For this project I used all charcoal.

The grid method really helped create a more realistic version of ourselves because you could take it square by square. I learned to not just outline but to create shapes with shadow, and that the hair shouldn't just be random lines which I think helped me improve from my other self portraits. I also the more I added highlights and stopped trying to outline my facial features it made it more realistic.

This picture definitely shows improvement from my other self portraits but I think that I could improve this one by blending more so there weren't a bunch of random lines and make sure the tones that are supposed to match, match more.
