Time Capsules

For my 3 time capsule drawings I drew a self portrait, a 3-D object (my hydro flask), and a corner (the corner in my room).

To draw my self portrait, I started with the facial features, then I drew the face shape so that the facial features would be centered. To finish my drawing I drew the neck and hair, and made a few last minor critiques. For my self portrait drawing I used a mirror so that I could make my self portrait look like me as much as possible. For this drawing I used dark and light pencils to show the darker and more shadowy parts of my face. Techniques I used in my artwork were turning the paper different angles to get different perspective, dark and light pencils, and lines to show higher and lower parts of the face. For example, I colored the inside of my nose darker because thats how it looks in real life. My project evolved quite a bit. What I mean by this is if something didn't look how I envisioned it, I critiqued it. My final project really changed, for example, the nose now looks more realistic. To draw my hydro flask I decided to do it more at a side angle to get a new perspective. I started by drawing the cover. From there I did a cylinder like shape for the bottom of the water bottle. Then to finish I drew what was labeled on the water bottle. I chose my hydro flask as my 3-D object because I used it everyday and I wanted to see what it would look like from a new perspective. For this drawing I used many lines in different directions, for it to look 3-D. I also used contrast to show where the water bottle is black and white. Techniques that I used in this drawing were contrast, shaping, lines, and dark and light space.

One thing I revised during this project was the cover, because at first it didn't look very 3-D, so I decided to change it. To draw the corner of my room I started by drawing a line in the center of the paper about a 3rd of the way down the paper, from their I made two diagonal lines going out until they reached the edge of the paper. From their I added in the decorations that are in that corner of my room into my drawing. For this piece of art I used dark and light pencils to display the lighter and darker parts in that corner of my room. I chose to draw this specific part of my room because it had the most going on and I wanted to see what it it looked like from a new perspective. Different techniques in this piece of art work are, contrasts, line, form, and space. I used space by making good proportions and having the same amount of space on each wall. I revised my drawing by adding a carpet onto the floor to give me a challenge, and to fill in empty space.

I think these time capsule drawings will really tell a story on how much were going to learn this year. This is because if we go into the future, lets say the end of this year, I'm going to be a lot better of an artist. These three drawings relate to my own life because these are things I see everyday and its cool to see them from a new perspective. From looking at my hydro flask, to looking at the corner of my room, to looking at myself in the mirror, it's fascinating to see how you perceive these things on paper. If I were to change one thing about each of my time capsule drawings I'd divide my self portrait up evenly to show better proportions, I'd make sure my hydro flask had straighter lines, and I'd darken the lines of my corner so you can better see that it is a corner.
