This project is called pure contour and patterns. For this project, I drew three pure contour animals and I left them white to show the positive space. For the negative space background, I incorporated all different types of patterns to bring out the animals in the positive space. To make this artwork I started by picking three toy animals and enlarged them on the paper, so I had three animals. One with a front view (dear), one with a side view (goat), and a choice view which I did as another front view (bear). Materials I used for this project were graphite pencil, colored pencils, a fine point pen, and a ruler. I used the ruler to create a border for my project. Then I used the graphite pencil to draw the border and all of the animals, tracing over the animals with the fine point pen. To add color to the negative space I used colored pencil, and I made sure I pressed hard to have as little white space, as possible. I chose to use animals as my 3 objects because Maine is full of wildlife, and I wanted some of the animals to feel like Maine. For this project, I used pattern in the negative space. Some examples of this are the polka dots, triangles, raindrops, and checkerboards. This work is composed into separate sections, so where they're a different closed in parts of the paper, it’s a different pattern.
Techniques that are showcased in my art color and positive and negative space. I used positive space where the animals are white and I used negative space in the background, where they're colors. My project evolved from looking like I didn’t press very hard with my colored pencil, to having very little white space. I did this by going over the colored pencil again, but this time pressing a lot harder.
The meaning behind this project is to tie in everything we learned this quarter about pure contour, patterns, and positive/negative space to create a final project in the quarter. This project relates to my life because I have seen all of they're animals in Maine, and my goal was to draw animals that you can see in Maine. To make my ar work stronger, I would probably go over it for the 3rd time with a colored pencil because although there's not as much white space, some work could still be done to make it look better.
