Zen-tangle Design Value Strips

This is my Zen-tangle value strip and it shoes dark and light values. For this project I didn't pick a very complex pattern because I wanted to stick with the same pattern throughout all of the squares. I did a black and white checkerboard pattern, and in the white space I did zig-zags, to give my project more character. I made this project by drawing more squares that are darker on the left side, and the more right you go the larger and lighter the squares get. For this project the only material I used was a pencil because thats all I needed to show dark and light values. I chose to do a checkerboard pattern because I thought it would do a really good job showing dark to light color values, and it did. I used the same pattern on each square so you could really see teh dark to light values. This work is arranged by the drawing of multiple squares.

Techniques used in my artwork are that my artwork gets darker to lighter throughout the squares and that my squares get smaller where they should also be darker. My project evolved over time because at first I had a few different patterns, but the I changed it so that I would have the same pattern throughout. Also at first I didn't have the zig-zags in the white space, in the first place, but then I added them in.

The meaning behind this artwork is that you can really show case dark and light value by making a pattern smaller, and pressing harder with your pencil. The story of this artwork is probably checkers because the arrows show which direction each person has to go in. This project relates to my own life because it shows how that even with the same pattern, you can still show dark and light values. To make my artwork stronger I would probably make the squares a little neater by using a ruler.
