Creative Color Design

I'm calling this project, abstract tree because it is a abstract tree and background. The subject is a portrait based off an outside scene. I chose to create this specific artwork because I really enjoy the outdoors. For materials, I used graphite pencil to sketch my drawing and I painted in with the acrylic primary colors. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: painting and color mixing.

While creating this artwork I paid close attention to color and I did that my making shades and tints. I wanted my artwork to look abstract and I did that by dividing up different spaces into 7 different shapes. To add interest to my composition, I used balance by having there be 12 sections on the paper with 7 tints/shades in that one area.

I like the way my art looks like the outdoors but in an abstract way so it makes you think about it more. However, I struggled with making clean brushstrokes in some areas. If I created another work like this I may do it on a bigger piece of paper. My work shows that I learned how to use black and white to give a color many different shades and tints.
