Independent Design

I'm calling this project, California because it is based on a photo that I took of the Golden Gate Bridge in California. The subject is a landscape based off a photo of the Golden Gate bridge that I took in San Francisco. I chose to create this specific artwork because I remember going over the bridge and thinking about my favorite show as a kid, full house, and in the theme song they would go over the Golden Gate Bridge in a convertible.

For materials, I used a graphite pencil, a ruler, and various colors of oil pastels. I used a variety of techniques including: gridding and color mixing. While creating my artwork I paid close attention to space by making sure there was a little white space as possible. I wanted my artwork to look like the photograph, and I did that by gridding the photo and the project to make sure the colors matched. To add interest to my composition, I used contrast by having my picture of choice including a large variety of color shades. I like the way my artwork has the same color values as the photograph and I am proud of how I was able to use a lot of out of class time to complete this project.

However, I struggled with mixing too many colors because it would make some of the pastels come up onto the paper, and look a little messy. If I created another artwork like this I may make erase pencil marks better. My artwork shows that I learned how to independently make a color design project out of oil pastels.
