Artist Statement:

The main idea that guided my artwork in my Self-Portrait is that it is trying to show myself how well I can do with focusing on details. The main idea that guided my artwork in my Still Life was the book that I have been reading for English and what it is trying to show is that I can also focus on concentrating on details. The main idea that guided my artwork in my Corner of a room drawing was the corner of my living room. What this artwork is trying to show is that I concentrated on details such as shadowing.

For my Self-Portrait, I used Graphite Sketch Pencils and started by outlining everything, then drawing details such as pieces of hair. I then decided to shade in certain stuff and tried to add as many of my facial features as I could. For my Still Life, I also used Graphite Sketch Pencils and started by outlining the book and pages. I then started making the letters for the title of the book and tried to add some details from it as well. For my Corner of a room drawing, I used Graphite Sketch Pencils again plus a blender and started by making a point of view for the living room to have an accurate corner. I then use the blender to create a shadow in the corner of the room and then drew out some stuff in my living room so the paper would not be full of white/blank.

For my Self-Portrait, I did not try to experiment with it. The only thing I was "experimenting" on was how well I could try to add facial features while focusing on myself in the mirror. The reason I did not use color is that I felt like this needed to just be a sketch instead of a full-on piece of artwork. For my Still Life, I did try to experiment with this because I tried to draw the book from a different angle, so you could see the pages while also seeing the front cover of it. I did not decide to use color because, again, I felt like this is just supposed to be a sketch and nothing more than that. It is not "artwork" ready. And for my Corner of a room drawing, I also tried to experiment with it by putting a perspective or point of view in the drawing of the corner to add some depth to it. I did not add any color because I like how it looks with the black and white, plus with the shading to create shadows.
