The time I’ve spent on Literary Arts has taught me that our stories are tapestries and everything around us are strings. We are weavers, who piece everything together. On our journey to create this tapestry, we will be faced with many difficulties. Not every string fits and at times, we might feel hopeless. But if we innovate to turn the stray strings into something even better, we can create art.

When I first thought of the word “journey”, I immediately thought of a life journey, which made me decide to portray the journey of a girl’s life by drawing a maze using one-point perspective. The maze like life, is hard to escape from. The walls in the maze vary in height, creating depth in the artwork. The higher the wall signifies greater difficulty in life
To make the artwork interesting, I used juxtaposition, contrasting between a smooth baby hand and a rough hand of an old lady, suggesting that time has passed very quickly.
I also ‘document’ her life stages, so I drew her when she was a baby, toddler, teenager, adult and elderly, such as drawing the girl at the teenage stage sitting in a hunched position showing that adolescent people are quite sensitive. I integrated some happy moments, like her first time riding a bicycle,
I experimented using the collage technique by using glue to stick pieces of newsprint and tracing paper. Newsprint is yellow, which makes the map look like it is stained. The stains then symbolise the blood, sweat and tears shed during the time of the girl’s life. The words in the newspaper around the map symbolises everything she has learnt in her life.
All in all,Life is a journey everyone has to take. But do no be belittled by the adversities you face. Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations

Many people dream of being rich one day and essentially focus solely on materialistic things in life (like money), hence through this artwork i wanted to show how many had an eye for money, by drawing an eye with a hand stretching out, reaching out for the notes of cash in the distance.

It has been very entertaining to learn with everybody in theatre. The teachers managed to make the lessons fun yet educating, especially the activities involving teamwork. I have picked up many skills in this class, and am very grateful for it. I have learnt things I never knew about, things I never thought about before. These lessons have made me open my eyes to different people, and allow myself to have an open mind. Theatre could never be more enjoyable.

I remember the nerves that were coursing through our body before the examination and how the air smelled of hairspray. However, as seen from the smiles on our faces, we were relieved that we had successfully completed it. Even though we were all trembling as we got into our starting pose, I could feel the energy and encouragement bouncing off my friends and I as we poised our heads and waited for the music to start. It was heartwarming to see everyone give their best and a passionate performance.

In every semester, music students are to learn and perform as a group. Chamber music allows us to bond together and also develop ourselves towards being a musician. Personally, I learned to be more responsible as we need to play our part to give out a good and clean performance as a group. I enjoyed being part of the group and value the opportunities provided by SOTA for me to grow as an artist.

This composition is mainly about the excitement about music-making. The musical elements in the music and the suitable title help to convey this. In the process of making this, I learnt a lot of basics of composing. Some of which include the instrument choice, balance of instruments and writing variations. I was satisfied with this composition as I put in my heart and soul into making this music.
