This video gives a brief introduction on ELCT. We discussed the topics we had learnt about and essay structure such as "PEEL"
In geography, we learn to be more aware about the world around us. One example of this is the energy crisis where supply did not meet demand and the resulting effects. Along with this, we learnt how to read maps using coordinates and the structure of a short essay.
These are some notes which explain two topics that we learnt in class.
This annotation of 'Siren Song', by Margaret Atwood, was done in class. In the poem, literary devices are used to emphasize the poem's message. One example of this is the use of repetition in the poem, where the reader is enticed by the hypnotic effect of the repeated phrases. All these ideas are explored during class discussions.
In this video, some students cover topics we learnt in science, accompanied with clips of the experiments conducted in the Science laboratory.
These are some history notes summarising what we've learnt throughout the year focusing mainly on the development of Singapore.
This is a picture of our textbook and some notes taken down in class.
This video talks about R1's experience with Mathematics throughout the year, focusing more on hands-on activities accompanied by some notes and an explanation of what we do during class.
This year’s MTL opened many opportunities for R1 to explore their mother tongue languages and immerse themselves in their culture. We thoroughly enjoyed participating in class exercises that tested our understanding of the language and further deepen our love for the history behind it. During our learning journey, MTL students formed groups and did projects which integrated Art with language, like the picture book. Students created their own picture books based on one topic they learnt in MTL. We have collected a sample of the project work to showcase the learning of our Chinese language students. Please enjoy what we could provide.
A group project done by Desiree, Sophia, Ching En, Janelle and Maya
These are some pictures of the story book.
For Chinese, we received a project which required us to make a book based on the theme “This is me”. Along with the guidelines, we were given 10 weeks to complete the book. As this project was done during the HBL period, the assigning of roles ( E.g Illustrator, writer) had to be done efficiently and in an organized manner. My group members Desiree, Sophia, Ching En, Janelle and I, each had to take turns to bring the book home to do our share.
Our book is about a girl called Lily who aspires to become a famous pianist. With hard work and dedication, she reaches her goal and performs worldwide. The book is meant to tell Lily’s story of becoming her true self to relate to the theme. We also wanted to inspire readers (7-9 year old children) to dare to dream and work hard to achieve their goals. Creating the book was challenging due to the lack of materials and restrictive social distancing measures. However, the challenge only strengthened our spirits as we pushed through it all. This project allowed us to express ourselves in the Chinese language too.
