Art Form: Theatre
In Theatre, a certain creative appreciation and respect for a wide range of theatre traditions, dramatic styles, forms, processes, practices, conventions, and values are gained through practical experiences that develop their creative voice and vocabulary. The value of theatre is displayed in a range of social and cultural contexts that allow those who take the theatre program to develop skills and values for theatre-making and lifelong learning. Theatre, in other words, is a performing art form that requires great teamwork and individual awareness to provide an enjoyable performance for the audience on stage. Many valuable friendships and bonds are made through the challenges the students face together.
This year, the Year 1 Theatre students progressed through different types of performances. We started with large group performances of tableaux, which are frozen stage pictures formed by us on stage to convey a storyline. We then proceeded to explore the world of improvisational acting where anything is possible and listening and reacting comes into great importance. After, we performed a duologue piece titled "Flying to the Sunset". Our last performance consisted of our imagination and great teamwork. We came into groups of three, combining our individual works and creating group pieces. Our end-of-year showcase also lets us experience a real audience outside the confines of theatre in school. The videos below are from our showcase, and transfigured by a combination of lights and sounds we have learnt to use.
History in Year 1 investigates the history of Singapore from before the 14th century to British colonization. Students learn about push and pull factors to mass migration, as well as how to analyse and infer information from sources. Several artefacts by R7 students done for a History project are shown below.
At the start of the year, we were tasked to research on the ancient countries and their history. This group chose to do Ancient Egypt. This was an artwork made with paper mache art, then painted and added with intricate details.
