This is a reenactment of a scene from the short theatre script, "Sister's Island". Acted by Hugo Teng (R4) and Sophie Liu (R4) as the Orang Laut and Mina respectively.
In this scene, the Orang Laut is being portrayed as a desperate character, looking for ways to impress Mina. Mina, on the other hand, was disgusted by his personality and tried to avoid him.
This was a graded project done by Ashley Leong (R4).
Based off the book "Totto-Chan: The Little girl at the Window by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi", Ashley decided to illustrate a book cover, inspired by the light-hearted story of Totto-Chan's school life.
The creative response project allowed us to explore different ways of linking literature and our art forms. We were also given a chance to explore different art forms (e.g composition of music, book covers, dance video, etc etc) .
Other than that, a written rationale was also needed to be submitted. We learnt what a written rationale was and it also helped us to explain the links between the creative product and the book.
^ "Singapore River" poem, by Lee Tzu Pheng
In Semester 2, we started to explore poetry, something that very few of us had learnt about. In this topic, many of us were able to appreciate language arts through poetry. We studied a few poems like 'Singapore River' by Lee Tzu Pheng, 'The Trouble with Snowmen' by Roger Mcgough as well as 'Introduction to Poetry' by Billy Collins. These poems include various different moods, tones and meanings.
This was a graded project done by Kate Lim (R4)
In the project, we had to choose one poem out of five and pair that poem with a visual text (e.g. artworks, advertisements and photographs etc.) The visual text that Kate chose was a photograph of a Venus flytrap while the poem Kate chose was 'Siren Song', a poem about a deceiving character tricking the readers into harming themselves.
Through this project, we were able to better understand particular literary devices and how they manage to convey the speakers' thoughts and feelings. In addition, we were able to learn how to link a poem to a visual text by analysing their meaning.
