Thursday 6th November 2014

On Thursday we left Łódź to go for the all-day trip. Our goal was The Museum of Concentration Camp Auschwitz.

We stopped for a short visit in Krakow where we walked alongside the King’s Road from The Old City to Wawel – the old residence of Polish kings. On the way we had a little time to buy Polish souvenirs in Sukiennice (a cloth hall, the mediaeval marketplace with trading stalls). After a stopover in Krakow, we went to Oświęcim, where there is The Museum of Concentation Camp Auschwitz “All over the world, Auschwitz has become a symbol of terror, genocide, and the Holocaust. It was established by Germans in 1940, in the suburbs of Oswiecim, a Polish city that was annexed to the Third Reich by the Nazis. In 1942, it also became the largest of the death camps.” (from http://en.auschwitz.org/h/)

We were divided into 3 groups and we visited the museum, barracks, and chambers of death. The time hurried us, but even when dusk came, we went to visit the camp in Brzezinka, known as Birkenau.

On the way back to Łódź we ate traditional Polish dishes. We came back to Łódź late in the evening. We were very tired after a long and emotional day.
