December 2013

This month's newsletter, written by Holly Hermann:

Life Blood: My sister has a saying that if you have all day to clean your house, it will take you all day. If you have 30 minutes, it will take you 30 minutes. I have found that I need a sense of immediacy to get things done. A plan is nice, a purpose is admirable, but a deadline is life blood to me. I have talked and dreamed about writing to be published, but it is not happening. I have to commit to a deadline. I need someone to hold me accountable for my dreams.

I know everyone is different, but do you know what gets you in front of the paper, in front of the computer and lets you get lost in the words? If you are struggling like me, look for the thing that gets your blood pumping.

Writing Prompt: What are the things that get your blood pumping, gets you in front of the paper or the computer, and lets you get lost in the words? Write about it.

COMING UP: December 10, 2013 - It's time for our Guild Christmas Party. Join us for and evening of food (anyone and everyone can bring food), fun, and fellowship. We will be completing a Christmas-centered writing exercise. We will also have a book exchange - please bring a book wrapped for the occasion.

FEEDBACK (CRITIQUE) OPPORTUNITY: If you want to receive feedback on your work, come early (5:30 p.m.) to meet with others. Bring 6-8 copys of your short piece (300 words or so) for the group to read along as you share. You could bring what you’ve written in response to the prompt above, or something else you’re working on. It can be a portion of a book chapter, or a short article too.

FUN STUFF: Did you find the error in this month's newsletter? If so, click on the 'Contact Us' link and send us an email. The first one to respond will receive a prize.

See you at the December meeting!

Blessings,

Patti Nicholson
