This month's newsletter, written by Renee Liming:

Tribute to My Mother

As Mother’s Day approaches, let us remember our mothers and the lessons that they have taught us. If your mother is no longer alive, write a tribute to her. What legacy did she leave behind? If she is still alive, write her a note of gratitude.

Mine would include something like this ~ Mom, thanks for teaching us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and comfort the lonely. You had Father Rorke, the traveling nurse, and the widowed woman over for dinner when they had no other invites. You taught us to pick an ornament off the giving tree at church and give to the less fortunate.

Here’s an excerpt from a note that my daughter sent me on my birthday: You taught me how to give of myself and think of others first. You showed me how to express my emotions.

Writer's Prompt: What lessons did you learn form your mother? Write about them.

COMING UP: May 12, 2015 - Our Member Showcase. We will have a full night of readings from several of our Members. Family and friends are welcome to attend this special opportunity for members to let their creativity shine - treats included.

The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. in room 305 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.

FEEDBACK (CRITIQUE) OPPORTUNITY:

If you want to receive feedback on your work, come early (5:30 p.m.) to meet with others. Bring 6-8 copies of your short piece (300 words or so) for the group to read along as you share. You could bring what you have written in response to the prompt above, or something else you’re working on. It can be a portion of a book chapter, or a short article too.
