March 2015

Post date: Mar 3, 2015 3:12:25 AM

This month's newsletter, written by Patti Nicholson:

Ecclesiastes 3 talks about how there is a time for everything. As spring approaches, it brings with

it a time of rebirth – the trees will begin to bud, the flowers will push their way through the soil

yearning for the warmth of the sun.

Having tended a garden for several years, conditions need to be just right for the crop to be the

best. Of course, ‘just right’ doesn’t always happen, so the results suffer.

It seems to me our relationship with God also needs to be tended, even more so than our garden.

If we work hard to get our crops to grow, shouldn’t we work at least as hard on our relationship with

Him?

Writer's Prompt: What steps do you take to 'tend' your relationship with God? Do you spend time

with him daily? Do you share Him with others? Write about it.

COMING UP: March 10, 2015 - Our speaker will be Sarah Stokes, speaking on "Personal Profiles with Pizzazz." A personal profile article tells the story of someone you've interviewed, but how can you engage the reader with something that's more than a biography of your subject. Learn how story brings life to an article.

Sara Stokes is a former television news anchor in the Chippewa Valley and the current owner/editor/publisher of Queen of the Castle Magazine, where she writes many personal profile pieces. She and her husband Chris Herzog own Stokes+HERZOG Advertising, Public Relations and Marketing as well. She had a degree in Journalism from Drake University. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. in room 305 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.

FEEDBACK (CRITIQUE) OPPORTUNITY:

If you want to receive feedback on your work, come early (5:30 p.m.) to meet with others. Bring 6-8 copies of your short piece (300 words or so) for the group to read along as you share. You could bring what you have written in response to the prompt above, or something else you’re working on. It can be a portion of a book chapter, or a short article too.

See you at the March meeting!
